Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October, 1964 is an American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female elected vice president and is also the highest-ranking female officer in American history. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and as the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Following her first job as an Alameda County District Attorney, Harris was recruited to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Later she became the City Attorney of San Francisco. The office was named San Francisco district attorney in 2003. In 2010, Harris was elected Attorney General of California. She was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California, from 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sánchez in the 2016 Senate elections, becoming the 2nd African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to be senator in the United States Senate. Harris was a senator and campaigned for reforms to healthcare and federal cannabis de-scheduling. She also advocated for an opportunity to become a citizen for immigrants who are not legally documented and the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons as well as progressive tax reform. Her most well-known accomplishments are her sharp questions to Trump administration officials during Senate hearings.
